Hematology of Lower Vertebrates
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction The proper evaluation of the hemogram of any animal patient involves the determination of a total erythrocyte count [TRBC], packed cell volume [PCV], hemoglobin concentration [Hb], total white blood cell count [TWBC], white blood cell differential, and the evaluation of a stained peripheral blood film. The basic techniques used in mammalian hematology also apply to that of lower vertebrates, such as birds and reptiles. However, because lower vertebrates have nucleated erythrocytes and thrombocytes, there are a few modifications to the techniques. Also, the morphology of the hemic cells of lower vertebrates often varies from mammalians cells. The evaluation of the peripheral blood film involves the examination of the cellular components of the blood sample. Each cell group [erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes] should be examined for any abnormal morphologic changes.

Zebrafish model for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation not requiring preconditioning.
Recent work on vertebrate hematopoiesis has uncovered the presence of deeply rooted similarities between fish and mammals at molecular and cellular levels. Although small animal models such as zebrafish are ideally suited for genetic and chemical screens, the study of cellular aspects of hematopoietic development in lower vertebrates is severely hampered by the complex nature of their histocomp...
متن کاملPhylogenetic Analysis of Three Long Non-coding RNA Genes: AK082072, AK043754 and AK082467
Now, it is clear that protein is just one of the most functional products produced by the eukaryotic genome. Indeed, a major part of the human genome is transcribed to non-coding sequences than to the coding sequence of the protein. In this study, we selected three long non-coding RNAs namely AK082072, AK043754 and AK082467 which show brain expression and local region conservation among vertebr...
متن کاملDrosophila as a model for the two myeloid blood cell systems in vertebrates.
Fish, mice, and humans rely on two coexisting myeloid blood cell systems. One is sustained by hematopoietic progenitor cells, which reside in specialized microenvironments (niches) in hematopoietic organs and give rise to cells of the monocyte lineage. The other system corresponds to the independent lineage of self-renewing tissue macrophages, which colonize organs during embryonic development ...
متن کاملRelationship between serum ferritin and growth status of pediatric transfusion dependent thalassemia
Background: Growth retardation is a long-term complication in pediatric transfusion-dependent thalassemias (TDTs), presented as short-stature and upper body segment shortening. The cause of this condition was chronic hypoxia, iron overload, endocrinopathy, inadequate transfusion, and iron chelation. We analyze the relationship between ferritin level and growth status of pediatric TDTs. Methods...
متن کاملA 6-Month-Old Girl with Infantile Hemangioma of Left Lower Limb, a Case Report
Introduction: Hemangiomas are the most common tumors of infancy and infantile hemangiomas are the most common vascular tumors. The etiology of this tumor is unknown. Hemangiomas commonly occur in the skin followed by the deep tissues (intramuscular) and rarely within bones. Case Presentation: Hereby, the case of a 6-month-old girl whose whole left lower limb f...
